Shop Local... Road Trip

This summer I have been on the road quite a bit. This is my follow up to What do labels mean??? entry.
I spent a day taking my time driving back to the North Woods and discovered a few amazing fiber shops, shop owners, and their stories.
In Brookfield WI on North Avenue, a quaint shop called Cream City Yarn. This shop really does look like a limestone home from England! Once inside, you are greeted by friendly faces, enthusiast knitters and well just a calm happy place. The atmosphere of this small treasure is worth a stop. I was able to take my time, entangle my thoughts into the yarn and fibers and make my selections. I was secretly being cared for. I wasn't rushed. I wasn't followed. I was quietly asked if I was doing ok. If and when I had questions I was helped with so much insight. My chosen yarn was Be Sweet and Spud and Chloe. Two of my favorites!
Further North you will find a wonderful shop owner at The Knitting Room in Fond Du Lac WI. The new owner began knitting herself a short while ago. Fell in love with fibers and the art of knitting. The store was being sold by the original owners who were ready to retire. Not wanting to lose such a treasure in Fond Du Lac she decided to buy the shop and start a new chapter in her life! She is a fun person with passion and gusto to hear others speak of their interests.
If you are in the area of the east central area this is a stop that will please you. I am not sure how much time I sent there because once we girls start talking about all things fiber related we lose track of time! I did manage to stop talking long enough to pick up some Sublime Organic.
As you continue North to Wausau WI you will find the Black Purl Yarn shop. No website as of yet. She is so busy knitting, teaching, helping, and talking with us chatty girls! Inside you will find a haven of delicious organic yarns, farm fibers ( Alpaca ). She has so many of my favorites! I shop here the most because it is the closest to me. Just 50 miles south east from my house. Yep, I said 50 miles! What is a knitter to do when the closest shop is 50 miles away? Make all Doctor appointments in Wausau, change oil in Wausau, Home depot, etc..... you get my point. You make everything anf anything possible just to get to Wausau WI. I also have a special place in my heart for the Black Purl. My mentor Kate who owns Eartha Naturals in Medford WI is good friends with Beth the owner of the shop. We knitters know where to go to get good info and help:)
My next Summer 2012 entry will be after the 2012 Fall Naturals Collection mini sessions with Photography by Julee. She is also a local artist in Medford WI. with many talents when photographing moving objects ( us people, kids, infants, and ohhhhh the sweet sleeping newborns!) The line is knit from the shops I have visited.
