I am in shock at the idea that summer is slowly slipping away already. The sun is setting earlier and the nights are cooler. I had my first fall mini session model contest this summer. It was a blast having three adorable winners. Ages were 18 months girl, 3 month boy, and a 3 month girl.
It took us quite awhile to get it all done. Having babies is busy enough but throw in a calendar and agenda and it gets pretty wild. One has shots. One is entering in the 2 year old faze, and the third really wanted to eat!!!
But through the hectic day and reschedules the end result was amazing. Pure joy shining through the camera lens. Photos by Julee, a local photographer of the North Central WI area was apart of the contest. Julee Emmerich is talented at working with small wee lil' ones. I never seen anyone with such spunk and happiness at what she does. I think, by watching her she doesn't even see it as work! She doesn't just work well with the children but she is so accommodating to her clients. She really does take the time to hear what the mommies and daddies like!!!
Sprouts Baby and Toddler Boutique supplied the gift certificates! Heather Orth, the owner of Sprouts is very creative, outgoing, and loves what she does. Her shop shines because she truly put her heart in her shop. From the design to the layout it is a unique boutique. Sprouts is located in the lower level of Eartha Naturals in Medford WI. Check out her fan page on facebook.
Each winner also received a embellished onesie and a knit hat from the fall collection.
On the day of the shoot it was a hot sunny day. I had so many moments of laughing and watching all the cute facial expressions and how the creative juices were flowing from using props to capturing natural light. The 18 month old was so full of energy we couldn't keep a hat on her! Or let alone keep her sitting, standing, or even noticing there was a camera. We settled mostly on a embellished flower hair piece and playing peek a boo. The lil' 3 month old boy was just a happy camper. He would make these wide smiles and try to laugh. The lil' 3 month old girl had to reschedule a couple of times and this is where Julee shines. The first shoot with the other kids her son was very sick. With no hesitation she was reassured that she could come back when her children were healthy! Unfortunately her second appointment lasted 3 minutes due to having shots earlier but the third time was a winner! I missed seeing the shoot. I was just getting back from a late drive home from Chicago visiting my daughter. I was so anxious to see the final results! I think I drove Julee a little bit crazy. When I saw the final edits I was blown away with excitement.
Thank you to the families for making this first contest a huge success! I am already looking forward to the spring 2013 mini session model contest!!!

Kids
I always say "Kids rule the session". No...I don't mean there is chaos in the studio while they are here but, some children take a little longer than others. I work very hard to get your children to smile and have fun. When they are having fun, they have natural smiles. Some photos will be "posed" or more formal shots and othes will be while we are playing.
When scheduling their session, keep in mind nap times, lunch and snack times. A happy, well-rested and fed child will be much easier to work with.
Family
Family photos are similar to children sessions. When scheduling your appointment keep their schedules in mind. Family sessions are based on time. For example: My sessions are typically an hour or hour and a half long. If you bring a large extended family, you will have fewer photos of each of the individuals but, can have as many different combinations of groups or individuals as the time allows. As with all my sessions, I am very flexible on the number of combinations and clothing changes.
Where will my session take place?
I photograph in a number of locations. I have a studio that provides many options for backgrounds and props. However, I also use our property which includes a large pond with dock, old wooden tree swing, barn, several fences, stone walls, wooded areas, paths, gardens, etc. In addition, I frequently shoot in many locations around town as well as at a location of your choice. The possibilities are endless!
How long will my session last?
A typical session will last approximately 1 ~ 1 1/2 hours. Photos may be taken both indoors (in the studio) or outdoors in the yard/area around the studio. On location shoots are also possible. Many times there is no additional cost. Contact me for pricing. I have a very relaxed atmosphere in my sessions and will take both studio/formal shots as well as more candid shots. I encourage parents to participate in the session. However, some children actually will do better if the parents are not in the studio when I am shooting. If that is the case, I may ask you to step out for just a few minutes. Also, when taking children's photos, bring a favorite toy that may make them smile or that can be used in the session.
When will my proofs be ready?
Generally, proofs are ready in approximately two weeks of the session. Images will be uploaded for online viewing unless other arrangements are made.
Clothing Choices
When planning a photo session clients are most happy with the end photos when some thought and planning was done prior to the session. I recommend solids versus prints and classic colors work best. Try to avoid prints, or clothing with words, characters, etc. to create a photo that will be "timeless". When having your photo taken, we want to have a beautiful image where you or your children are the first thing you see rather than the clothing.
When doing group or family photos, this becomes even more important. The photos are best when people are all in a similar color (i.e. blue jeans and white shirts. Khaki and black, etc.) If you do choose to wear different colors, try to coordinate in the same color family or complimenting colors. Also, if everyone in the group is in darker colors such as browns, rusts, etc. and one person decides to wear bright yellow, expect that person to stand out above the rest.
If you are a family that is typically more casual, dress more casual. You will be most happy with the end result. Don't feel you need to wear a suit or dress if that is not "who you are".
I am very flexible in my sessions. I have no restrictions regarding clothing changes so if you have multiple outfits, that is fine. You are allowed as many clothing changes as time will allow.
