A good cup Joe and an old fashioned map....

Woke up on Saturday morning with a lazy morning ahead of packing and mapping out my drive the old fashioned way. No GPS. No high tech phone.  No internet. Just my car and me and a good cup of Joe. When was the last time you drove and spent the day looking at the scenery? Listening to music and singing as you do?

This is how my day with no connection went.

Got in my car. Drove. Drank my coffee. Thought wow this is quiet. Smiled. Saw a hawk by the side of the road. Thought of my camera. Realized camera is back at home. Turned up the music. Country. Luke Bryan came on. Smiled some more. Pulled over to check the map. Questioned the map. Got back on the road and saw a family pulled over changing a tire. Hour three pulled over stretched got back into the car and readjusted the radio station. More country. Tim Mcgraw. Started blasting my voice. Van drove by, child stared at me. Giggled at myself. Drank coffee had to pull over again. Recheck the old fashioned map. Question a gas station attendant. She was friendly.

Drove over bridges. Drove passed cows. Drove past construction. Drove through small towns.
Saw street signs. Saw rivers overflowing from last nights rain. Pondered where the rain will go. Pondered when the snow will start.

Ended my drive looking at more cows.

What I learned. When your not connected you see. You hear. You look. I loved looking. I felt alive in my car with no connection just my cup of Joe and me.
This past weekend was spent meeting a good friend Lori for the first time. Yep, first time.

Met on the internet. Met connected. Friendship cemented on a drive not connected. This world we live in today needs more days with a good cup of Joe.

I am anxious to see the images Lori snapped of me! Cold fingers. Cold toes. One foot felt like ice. More giggling. Nervous. Yet she makes you feel unaware that she is snapping away. I learned more about her. Her family. Her style with my eyes wide open and not being connected.

Going back to basics has been challenging. But I must say I sure have learned things about myself I think I wouldn't have seen unless I was unconnected.

Littlest things have big impacts. This past weekend I saw that a half shell has a full shaped heart.

Back to Basics images will be coming soon!
