Boy was I a happy camper today. Amongst getting many things checked off my to do list I was able to finally visit Dells Architectural Salvage in Eau Claire WI. I have had a dilemma with a window since I moved into my new place. I absolutely fell in love with my new place for it has one of the largest decks in the downtown area overlooking the St. Croix. However, the back stairs also run on one side being used by many. What is a girl to do if privacy is an issue? Why, become creative! When my knitting needles are set aside for a hammer and nails my dad's old tool box comes out with pride.
I have had an old vintage cabinet door chipped and worn. Two curtain panels and plenty of imagination just waiting for the right project. Today was that day. My eyes popped and danced as I scrolled through floors and outdoor space of Dells Architectural Salvage. To use old and make new and find art in repurpose I was a kid in a candy store. When I came back into the shop with an odd piece of wood the shop worker asked me " Why, what will that be?" I said with hugest smile "A curtain rod" He looked at me and the old stair dowel and paused. After a minute of looking over my find he said for scrap just a few dollars. But he really looked very puzzled at me. I asked if he had any old historical legs from cabinets or tables etc.. He lead me up two flights of stairs and opened the attic door and said. " very carefully climb those stairs and have at it. I looked at those stairs and looked back at him and simply said "got it". I think it had to be about 18 degrees with an open slated roof and birds flying around keeping me company and I think they were really there to make sure I didn't fall. I dug around until this light of excitement hit the corner of my eye and I so carefully walked over and started unloading this box of legs. I gotta tell you, this Northern WI girl was beyond excited and I knew I had to keep a straight face if I was going to be able to bargain a deal. Pleased with my finds and logged a few remember this piece for later I headed back down. Here are a few snap shots taken today.
